My Little Firecracker
Being away from civilization for 3 days was fantastic. No cell service no wifi no nothing. It was really good. As with any trip there is always good and bad. The bad included the staff at the resort, the good was our time together, Chelsea being adorable and a whole day on the pontoon.
The hardest obstacle of the trip was the heat. Our condo was on the 3rd floor and had AC window units in 2 out of the 3 bedrooms and none in the living spaces. It was very warm all the time. I took the bedroom with no AC so I relied on a box fan at night. I've not slept for 3 nights now and am typing this from bed. The temps up north are normally not near as warm as they were this week, it still doesn't excuse businesses to not have ample systems to keep their clientele cool. We even tried restaurants not at the resort and had no luck. Lessons have been learned and we've got a new check list for starting next year's search.
One somewhat shocking lesson for my parents came yesterday. It was just the 3 of us on the pontoon and my dad and I decided to fish a little. He kept telling me to do things but not explaining why, so I wouldn't do them. Finally I calmly said "Dad if you tell me why I need to do something and I agree, I'll do it." He kinda chuckled and said "Well I'm pretty sure the fish you just had has no more lips. You gotta slow down when you reel them in or you tear the hook right through them." I started laughing and told him it's easier to listen if I know why I need to make a change. He got it and was much better. What cracked him up was me swearing at the fishes and getting a bit animated when they would just nibble the worm. My mom said I had anger management, and my quick response was "Gee I wonder why!" Again my dad just laughed. I think he's starting to realize how much alike we really are.
Overall it was a great vacation for all of us. I think everyone one of us needed the break and did truly relax. Here's to hoping next year is even better!
