The best feelings in the world

Rick and I getting all geared up

Proof I went White Water Rafting!

Tonight is glorious.  I'm typing this from my giant squishy king sized bed in my own home!  In the flat and boring state I know and love!!!!  It's sublime to be back home.  My flights were good, pick up was a bit hairy, but I got take out from my fav spot, Tavern in Woodbury and got to see my sis and baby BooBoo.  She wasn't so sure about me at first, but once I smiled and she picked at my braces she warmed right up to me.  I cannot believe what a little doll she is.  So responsive and adorable.  She's really into mimicking sounds and simple actions.  I also got to watch bath time.  That baby loves her some water and splashing!

Now it's time for bed as my body thinks it's 11pm already and I have a huge day tomorrow.  Lots of walking and eating at the MN State Fair.  Right now our list includes fries, cheese curds, cookies, fried pickles, peanut butter fudge puppy, red velvet funnel cake, shrimp mango tacos, and gelato.  That sound you hear, yeah that's my arteries already beginning to clog!  Bring it on!!!

Weird Wednesday

Forts are awesome!!!
 mesmerized by Frosty the Snowman

Today was just another boring day of not doing any work.  I did go to Boone county and have lunch with Brandi.  That's always fun.  Then I spent 2 hours trying to get my brace wires shortened.  It did happen I just had really bad timing when I turned up at the ortho office.  By the time I got back to the hotel, changed and into the office my boss had taken off early.  FML

The best part of today is that I checked in for my flight tomorrow.  I cannot wait to get home and just be back to normal!  This state is still wearing on me.  After my weekend away I still cannot believe all the things that aren't here.  I get that the people wouldn't support say a chipotle and a Noodles, but come on people.  You don't need 2 Applebee's and more Tudors Biscuit Houses than I can count.  I like change and variety in my life, apparently the folks of WV don't.

I'm also ready for some rest and relaxation.  My spidey senses are sooooo off today.  H was freaking me out, talking about morals and such.  I was a bit worried he had heard something about this weekend, but that was just me being a worry wart.  There are many things that will be staying in MD!

Worthless

I'm cute, even in a camo hat.

Today was such a waste.  I worked for maybe 2 hours.  MAYBE.  I got a new claim and was super excited to have something to do tomorrow.  I mapped it out, turns out it's about 20 min from where I was this weekend.  Oh universe the irony is not lost on me.  Here's the kicker, the guy won't be home until Saturday so I have to give it away to someone else.  I was so hoping to have a reason to go back and see my boys.

Lots of people are leaving the office tomorrow and when I get back next week I have almost no one to hang out with.  I'm one of three people left at my hotel and the 2 girls I don't mind aren't with me.  I don't know that it would be worth moving but I will need to get some phone numbers so I can have a dinner out every now and again.  I'm sad Rick's leaving, but then again maybe people will stop asking if we are dating.  His insured asked us last night and it still makes me laugh.  Apparently we naturally look good together.

Tonight Brandi and I had dinner, a little Hibachi yummy time for me!  It was really good and we had Yogurt Mountain afterwards.  Now whoever decided to market do it yourself fro-yo is a damn genius.  It was delicious!  and I controlled how much of what I wanted on top.  So Cake Batter fro-yo, some Butterfinger, cheese cake bits, smores crunch bites and a touch of hot fudge.  Oh so delicious!  I'll for sure be going back to create even more deliciousness.

As usual we had a great talk.  I told her all about my weekend of fun and she told me all about her boys and shenanigans.  Some people really are crazy and there's not a lot you can do about it.  I'm glad she's cutting the one loose because the dude is certifiable!  Man he's got some problems, makes me a little worried that he knows where she lives and she doesn't have a gun.  Although I'm sure girlfriend is good with a baseball bat!  We've already made some plans for when I get back, which should be good times. I plan on sleeping on her air mattress, but maybe this time without the tall man who throws limbs around like my nephew throws linkin logs.

36 hours in MD

Me and the work hubs Clint

So my trip to MD was a success.  I got in at 6:45 on Sat night and did not sober up until sometime overnight last night.  IT WAS AWESOME!  My boys know how to make a girl feel welcome.  Sat night was sushi, Brad and Michaels apt for pre bar drinks, then bar.  We went to a place called Monkey La La's.  It was a hole in the wall having 80's night.  Just so much fun!  Before I knew it, it was bar close and we were back in a cab.  Clint and I spend the night at Brad and Michael's, because well it's just easier.  What isn't easier is sleeping on a queen size air mattress, with your work husband, who snores and throws limbs!  (his 6'2" please keep in mind, lots of limbs!) And even worse than that, sharing a FULL size bed with the same man.  I woke up twice last night, once his leg over mine and the second his leg still on mine but my arm fully extended touching his back on the other side of the bed.  Apparently I pushed his head as far away from me as possible.

Yesterday was pretty fun.  Michael woke us up entirely too early for the time we actually went to bed.  We spent the morning drinking coffee (Starbucks thank you very much to my hubby for getting it for me) and watching Project X, and trying to decide between fully sobering up or just drinking again.  After I convinced them to make me a pizza we voted on drinking.  Later in the afternoon Brad made us a ribs and baked potatoes, and we watched Bridesmaids while it poured rain.  Then Fred decided we had to go to the bar to watch the Broncos v 49'ers game, so off we went.  What was supposed to be 2 beers and only the first half turned into too many beers, the full game, and convincing the bartender to let us watch The Weather Channel.

Clint and I finally made it back to his hotel about 9pm.  I was dying for shower and unfortunately he had to call his girlfriend.  After all was said and done we were laying in bed watching more The Weather Channel.  I started to laugh that if we ever got married that would be our life.  Laying in bed, kinda buzzed, watching the weather for work purposes

I was talking to the BFF on my way back to WV this am and was telling her about all my fun, when she put two and two together.  My life with this group of guys/men is just like when we were in college freshman year and all our boys lived in the Dog House.  All the boys live in the same apt complex, but everyone migrates to Michael and Brad's because they are on the first floor.  There's a jar to leave money for meals and beer, and you bring your own chair or find one in the dumpster, if you can't pay you do dishes or cook.  It's JUST like being in college except we all have jobs that we respect and money to actually pay for things.  I'm sad it's a 4.25 hr drive one way, BUT I may have to make another trip next month.

I found out today I'm not being released to work Hurricane Isaac.  My boss and I will be the last people standing out here in WV.  Um yay?  But this may mean we get to work the winter in MN aka at HOME!  This is all speculation because in a month I could have a new job.  My boss out here is prepping me starting tomorrow for the interview process.  It makes me nervous as I don't like being told I'm not doing something right or I don't know something.  Here's hoping I don't eff it up too much tomorrow.

Fun on Friday's

No Photos Please!

Today was a good day.  Busy, but good.  I got to go down the turnpike which means STARBUCKS!!!  I also got cinnabon cini mini's.  Dude, sooo good and bite size, just the perfect amounts of all the goodness.  Rick came out to help me on a claim.  Once he left the insured asked me if we were married, or at least dating.  Apparently we have some sort of chemistry, which is kinda funny to me.  Physically he's my type, but the rest eh not so much.

Tomorrow's gonna be busy too.  I need to finish up a big reconciliation, do my laundry, get a pedicure and somehow get my hair to cooperate into going straight.  I'm heading up to Maryland to see my work husband.  I don't think I've put this much effort into a night out in ages!  I know this is the first time I've ever done it for a guy, and I'm not even sleeping with this one.  Although I have been promised more Starbucks, a dinner out, shopping if I want, pool side with drinks and I'll get felt up.  What more could a girl want.  Plus I'll get to see a couple other friends and I'm excited to be back into civilization.

For now it's off to sleepy time.  I haven't slept well in ages and I'm hoping my early start today and busy day will help.  If not it's lot of Sundrop on my drive tomorrow.

Wonderful Wednesday

Today was a breeze.  Conference call this morning, easy claim this afternoon, and some good laughs in the office this evening.  After work Todd and I went to a baseball team.  It's class A for the Pittsburgh Pirates and it was pretty good.

A few items to note:
-people here really live up to the stereotype
-the game was super empty yet the 7 strangers behind us felt the need to keep their seats and talk loudly and inappropriately.
-I had a pepperoni roll for dinner, it was delish.  I wish I hadn't inhaled it so I could try and replicate
-I saw my friend Brandi, I'm pretty sure she was on a date, wish means we have some talking to do.  Sounds like we may be able to have lunch together tomorrow.  It's very small town here, only I could go to a baseball game and find someone I know.  It's becoming a bit too much like home here.
-There's a fan known as Dan the Toastman, he's hilarious and possibly my hero.
-I don't hate baseball in person, I really just hate it on TV.
-I don't understand baseball stats, at all!  Too much math for me

I am super ready for football.  We are thinking of going again tomorrow for Thirsty Thursdays.  There's a big if though.  I need to find out if the Packers game will be on.  Last week they showed the Bengals here so I'm hopeful they'll do it again.  I need my fix!  Football pants are so much better than baseball.

2nd Monday

My Favorite Little Monster

Today felt like Monday.  Everything was going great then BAM! it all fell apart this afternoon.  I really hit a wall about 3pm and got super stabby feeling.  I'm still not sure what triggered it, but the snowball affect was present.  By the time Rick came in and asked me for help I was ready to give up on mankind.  He didn't really help any, but sometime it's nice when misery has company.  I'm happy I don't have any appts for tomorrow, at least not yet.  I may have one later in the day, which means I can sleep in and try to get a good breakfast since my dinner has consisted of things you can dip.  Oh and frozen cantaloupe, it's not as good as you would think.  Now it's time to watch some weeds and get to bed at a decent time.  Staying up just because I can has to stop.  Bad bad habits!

Misleading Monday

Why not wear your monster slippers, they match

Just hanging out in my bouncy seat with all my favorite things.

For a Monday it sure didn't feel like one.  I got to sleep late, had easy appts and overall just a good day. In the office tonight my boss called me in.  He asked me to get out my calendar, I was so thinking it was to discuss when I get to go home, NOPE.  I get to cover for the agency liaison and team leader when they are both at home next.  Lucky lucky me!

Tonight we went out to dinner to celebrate Isela's last day.  She and I met in the elevator and vowed to be good.  No sex talk at dinner, we would keep it PG!  Well guess what, turns out Rick is the total instigator.  He could not leave it alone, and the poor breadstick he attempted to animate.  Bread should not be treated that way.

Isela and I have decided to call Rick vanilla as in boring, but we are saying it in a hispanic accent bah neel ah.  We are hilarious.  And he deserves it too, especially since he wrote in the dirt inside my windshield.  I'm going to have to buy windex tomorrow to clean it, which is a bummer since I'm turning it in soon and it doesn't need to be clean to go to a salvage yard.  I guess I can keep it handy for my next car, maybe I'll keep that a bit cleaner.

Simple Sunday

A stick!   and tell me this child doesn't pose, please note her jazz hand!

Airplane Chelsea!

Today was the simplest of days.  Actually my last 3 days have been pretty simple, but I'm ok with that. It's a bit boring just hanging out, but I think I earned it.  Today I slept late, had coffee in bed, and did a little laundry and some grocery shopping.  I just finished up painting my nails and now I have a couple hours to just veg out.  Thinking I might pop in some Weeds and catch up on my seasons.

The last two nights I've actually gone out.  Friday night was dinner with Rick and Isela, last night was dinner with the same people then out to the casino with the addition of another co-worker Billy.  It was great fun, cheap beer and entertainment, but the machines were really old.  The boys played tables and Rick was up $1500.  I was super impressed and he was pretty pleased with himself.  I'm thinking we'll be back out there one night this week just for something new to do.

The dinner conversations were pretty entertaining as well.  In an attempt to not talk about work we ended up talking about relationships and such.  The biggest topic was our personal preferences and what we'd like to end up with.  Isela likes tall white guys, I'm more of a farm boy type and Rick wants the petite blonde athlete.  Sex was also a big topic and of course I am the odd one out in this group.  Rick and I do match in that neither of us have been long term relationships, but that's about it.

The conversation turned to romance and yet again I am the odd one out.  I just don't know how I feel about the whole concept of romance.  I know I certainly don't need it to have sex with someone, nor do I really like having that amount of attention placed on me.  I guess I'd rather be with a man I really like, who would do things for me without the expectation of anything in return.  I don't need flowers or chocolates or anything like that.  I'd rather he got me a take out when I was tired, or my favorite snack on our way to the movies.  I would do the same for anyone I was dating, but just wouldn't need it to be classified as romance.  I think to me romance really is dead.

A review of my ideal mate, all of these traits are still on my list and I've even moved away from looking "for my type" and thinking outside the box.  I highly doubt I'm going to find a man who looks like The Rock and wants to date me and all my flaws.

My Ideal Mate
5'8" or taller
comfortable in his skin
good manners
courteous
social drinker
prefer non smoker
night owl
good family values/relationships
facial hair is a plus
bald is another plus
values his alone time away from me and respects my need for the same
treats me like a princess

I need to keep putting this out to the universe and reminding myself of what really matters to me.  This list is a reflection of who I am what I want out of my life too.

A nice boring Friday

Chels went shopping!

My retirement plan aka make the twins successful musicians

Buddies loves a cake pop!

Today was super boring.  I got 11 hours of sleep last night, didn't go to the office today and did as little as possible.  So far the most excitement I've had was walking to Qdoba for lunch.  I'm waiting for Rick to get off a conference call and we are heading out to one of the few non chain restaurants for dinner.  It's attached to the Capitol Farmer's Market so I'm hoping for good things.

I was informed that I'll be here at least 3 more weeks.  I had to book a flight home for my weekend off over labor day.  So not excited about that.  Rick was supposed to be leaving tomorrow but management decided to keep him too.  At least I won't be all alone.

Upon hearing this my work hubby Clint told me I should come to MD.  It's about 4.5 hours one way and I'm really debating it.  I have nothing to do tomorrow so I could get there by the time he's off work and I could leave late on Sunday or even early Monday morning.  I'm desperate for a change of pace and some civilization.  I just need to feel out the office tomorrow and see what's what.  I'm pretty sure no one would even notice, well maybe Rick, but I'm sure golf is on and he can keep distracted.

Donuts make me HAPPY

Someone was home sick today and puked on everything

There was nothing special about today.  Just another day at work.  Pretty boring.  Although I did get psycho dialed by an insured this evening.  She called 6 times in an hour, all while I was inspecting another house.  I never got any voicemails from her so I'm not too sure what she needed.  RANDOM!

The highlight of my day was finding the Krispy Kreme again.  I've driven past it once before but didn't pay too much attention on how to get back.  I think there may be only one in the city and dang if the hot now sign wasn't on.  I happily purchased my donuts and inhaled the first one.  I mean I don't think I even chewed it was sooooooo good.  I only ate 2 and left the other 4 in the van for breakfast for tomorrow.  Yes 4 is overkill and I'll likely only have 2 more but just knowing they are down there is motivation to get up and on the road.  Good thing my first claim is 2 hours away.  I can pace myself and ration my stash :)

You can fix stupid

This is BooBoo's not going to bed face

Today I've come to the conclusion my new job title should be fixing stupid.  I'm doing a lot of additional inspections and it's just appalling what some people do or don't do.  I can always fix an estimate but righting things that have been said or left unsaid, well that's a whole nother story.  80% of what I do is apologize and try to make things better.  It's a good thing I have a great fake smile and can drip my voice with honey at the drop of a hat.

I spent most of my day driving, again.  I still got in 4 inspections but I'm wiped out and I feel a little behind.  I'm really not but I just hate having things sitting out there waiting to be done.  I dislike relying on someone to make a judgement so I can or cannot pay something.  Tomorrow is going to be very challenging.  The insureds are very elderly, have a lot of damage and a horrible estimate that I need to fix.  The contractor is also very West Virginian.  I could understand about 60% of what he said on the phone today.  Due to this inspection I had to pay to have my laundry done, $40~!  I was shocked but oh so desperate, if it didn't get done I was going to go naked tomorrow.  There goes all my per diem for the day.

Now it's time for bed.  I'm still struggling from not enough sleep on Sunday.  I doubt I'll catch up until this weekend.  As much fun as last weekend was, this Sunday needs to be lazy, very very lazy.

Rafting could be a new hobby

New River: the last 3 rapids we rafted

New River Gorge Bridge, highest and largest arch bridge 876 feet up

End of the New River

Hawks Point at the end of the New River

Today was a pretty awesome day.  I didn't get to sleep in or get anything on my list accomplished, but it was totally worth it.  White water rafting was simply amazing.  I never fell out of the boat, I got soaked more than once, I sat in the front and worked on my tan.  The most dangerous rapids we went through were cat 4, BUT in 3 weeks when the dam is opened they go to 6's and 7's.  I think that would be super fun.  I can see why people love it so much.  Out guide was great and gave us great tips if we want more of challenge and what outfitter to try out on another river further north.  Depending on how long I say I think I can convince Rick to go again.  Next weekend's gonna seem pretty mild if we don't keep up our adventures.  We are thinking zip lining might be next.

This week could become WV appreciation week.  Today was nature, tomorrow some class A baseball, and later in the week farmer's market and a couple restaurants.  Making the most of what I've got.

Stale Saturday

My sister's asshole cupboard.  Oh look there's Alfie, king of the assholes!
(She thinks he's plotting to killer her in her sleep)

Today I spent 5 hours driving, and I ended up in VA for about 30 min of that driving.  Thank goodness they make decent highways and better ways around mountains.  My crazy direction lady, well she wasn't all that crazy and I found her house on the first try!  Pretty impressive, especially for me.  I took the WV turnpike today and it cost me $10 in tolls, $2 per toll, 2 on the way down, 3 back up.  Normally I'd call BS on such a high toll BUT they have Starbucks in the auto plazas.  I mean legit Starbucks!  I was elated, I wanted to get a coffee at everyone, there were 5 total that I passed.  They also have Hersheys Ice Cream.  Had I not been full from my mocha I so would have gotten some, a guy passed me with a giant chocolate cone and I wanted to lick it.  I don't even like chocolate ice cream.

Tonight I had dinner with Rick and Todd at the "best seafood restaurant in Charleston."  It was good but not the best I've ever had.  It was nice to sit and chat and have a full meal.  I cannot believe how poorly I've been eating out here.  The highlight was discussing the baby pheasant Rick hit yesterday and how it became stuck under his bumper!  Oh the jokes about roadkill and my personal addition pheasant in a Transit instead of pheasant under glass.  Now it's off to bed, gotta get my rest for white water rafting tomorrow.

Just Being me

Yes that date says 1/11/98.  The BFF and I are somewhere in Ireland.

 ermergerd berks!
My shirt is a puppy, woof

this should be next to the definition of lounging in the dictionary

Today was a nothing special day.  I didn't have any inspections and spent my day doing misc paperwork and scheduling my appts for next week.  I did get to have a long talk with my manager mentor William.  He definitely thinks I'm selling myself short by not recognizing the affect I can have on others.  He's been telling me this for years and I work on it all the time.  I can easily sway an entire room into doing or believing whatever I want them too.  I have a pull/magnetism on others that I don't always see.  He thinks that I'd be fulfilled in my dream job, but ultimately the sense of accomplishment and helping others can only be achieved by being a manager.  Thankfully I can do my dream job and if I want to move up I can still be developed.  The best part is that doing it that way I'll make more money, which really is always a good thing.

Tonight I went out!  For once I was social, a manager is leaving and decided to have a group of us over to clean out his fridge.  Brats burgers corn mushrooms chicken chips yummmmm.  The funny thing is I was the only girl and I'm the youngest!  It was great times and good conversation.  Just what I needed!  I actually feel a little bit more normal.  Not being social can really affect me, I didn't even say too much but just being with others, outside of work is enough to balance me out.  I needed a release of some sort.

Tomorrow's gonna be an interesting day.  I have 3 claims way south of the office, like 2 hours south and in some real sketchy territory.  2 of my claims don't even have addresses.  On my last one the directions are to go to the post office, the house is one mile above it.  She told me that's correct and I need to look for a red white and blue umbrella.  I told my managers that I should be done inspecting no later than 4 and back by 6, if they don't see or hear from me by 7, send out the search party.  There are several counties in southern WV that have very bad reputations.  It's much more mountainous down there and much more back woods.  They have some of the nations worst levels of education and most work in the coal mines or run meth labs.  Thankfully it's a one day trip and I'm sure it won't be bad at all.  I'm tough, I can find my way!  Wish me luck.

Feeling a little stabby

Oh baby girl!  You crack me up.

Today I began to wonder if PMS has come a week early.  I want to stab everyone.  Nothing in particular made my day bad, but I am just super annoyed at everything.  In the office this afternoon the guys weren't being nasty, just annoying.  Staffing keeps changing, no one knows what's going on and I got a large amount of claims today.  I need to keep busy but I hate having to call people and tell them I'm the new adjuster and I need to move your appointment.  The clincher was when I asked Rick about what time he'd be done.  He had a no appointment day and was supposed to be caught up.  When he just laughed and said for what, I knew my plans of dinner out were null and void.  Then I got a complaint call and instead of delaying I just drove out and completed the claim.  If one more person tells me I'm a suck up and why would I do that I'm gonna start throwing punches.  I did it because it worked.  I have all day tomorrow to call people and why sit in my room on a somewhat nice evening when I can get an easy claim out of the way?  It took me more time to drive out to the house than it did to write the claim!

The weird part of the day was sitting in the office and having 3 different people come up and ask me questions.  I absolutely don't mind, I love helping out.  What was great is 3 trainers and 3 reinspectors were all in the office.  Now I'm just as approachable as they are, we all sit in the same room, but people asked me instead.  I guess it shows that I do have the skills and personality to do the job I just applied for!

Tonight it's pre-season football!  I should be down in the sports bar watching, but I'm feeling too mean to be in public.  I'm sure I'd punch someone for saying anything negative about my team!  I must say A-Rodg is rocking the beard and mama likes!  yummmmmm, although in 2 weeks it'll be my favorite fu man chu mustache.  Even more yummmmmmmm.  GO PACK GO!

Today turned out being much more intense than I had anticipated.  My boss's boss's boss brought up my name during a meeting and why I wasn't on the path to management.  I'm not sure if it's due to seniority or my skill set but it's flattering and nerve wracking at the same time.  I've been pondering the leap to management for a couple weeks but I just don't think my heart is in it yet.  My mom wants me to do it just for the money but I don't think I can compromise my love of the job for money.  I need some more time to try and make a difference and make an even better name for myself.  I did post for my dream job today!  Here's hoping I get another chance to interview in Sept.  I really really want this!    I think my path is trainer first, then into management, maybe once I'm too old to climb a roof or I really want to be at home or I can no longer say no to the money.

The whole situation stressed me out and made me really question myself and if I'm selling myself short. I don't think I am and need to stay on my path.  The guys in the office even noticed I was wound up today.  What really pushed me over the edge is finding out anyone with 200 days is out ASAP.  I'm at 197!  Seriously this is total BS.  I have no claims for Friday, and will be done with the rest on Saturday.  I have a handful that need to wait until next week due to people being on vacation.  I'm so over having to ask for work.  They blame the new system, but in reality nobody's been paying attention, they just wanted to close the claims we had.  I asked how many we get in a day and no one could answer.  This tells me just how poorly the storm has been run.  Reports should be out everyday and counts should be known.

The best is that even though we are shutting down in WV we could potentially go work in VA or NC.  I will be irate if that happens!  I want to get back home and working for my own zone and boss.  I feel like this storm has done nothing but put my goals back a little bit farther than I wanted.  I've whined every day I've been here, not in the office but still I've whined.  I know I've made my choice to not take anything away from this storm, but at least I made one hell of an impression.  Everyone calls me rockstar because I've closed the most claims in the shortest amount of time.  There are people who have been here 6 weeks and not closed the amount I have.

And now it's time for some beach volleyball.  Here's hoping I can stay awake to watch the whole thing.  This blasted heat is wiping me out!
