Day 2 of Superstorm

Today was horrible out, all snowy and super windy.  The snow didn't accumulate in the downtown area where I am, but just up the mountain they had 7" and no power.  I was one of the only people staying in Charleston that still had power.  The guys in the RV park lost their's this morning and my boss and his minion lost it last night.  My friend Brandi was at her boyfriends just across the river from me and she lost it there about 10am.   She came over shortly after and we spent several hours at the mall having lunch, talking and browsing around.  I found 2 pairs of shoes that I am so going to get before I leave here. 

 Right now there aren't many claims filed.  I saw a projection of 124,000 for 8 states.  That's a lot of claims.  I mean A LOT!  Doing the math that means 1240 employees like me doing 100 claims!!!  We don't have near that number of employees and I'm one of an elite few that can handle 100 claims in 4 weeks.  This is gonna get real interesting.  OH and that's not taking into account all the staff we need to man 3 call centers to route the claims and handle incoming paperwork.  Oh and the nearly 150 people working a special project.  Here's to hoping tomorrow brings some more answers.  For now it's time to make some dinner and settle in for New Girl and the Mindy Project.  I need a little giggle tonight.

Hurricane's Blow

Today I am bored.  Oh so bored!  Day 1 of hurricane seclusion was not fun.  I had to switch hotel rooms today due to remodeling.  Then I sulked in my new room instead of unpacking, because really? why bother.  I know my stay here is short lived.  Over the following 12 hours I accomplished the following:

-texted Clint, a lot.  He's driving to OH today

-watched talk shows

-went to the mall and bought some nail polish and stocked up on Panera

-ate lunch and looked at Pinterest for hours

-thought about what I would do if I were in a blizzard at home.  DVR, baking, and putting glitter on stuff was all out.  Relied on a pinterest craft that didn't require glue or tape.

-found my work shirts that had holes in them and cut them up into the above scarf.  I found my travel sewing kit and ta-da! New scarf.

-watched the Weather channel and felt depressed.  Just so depressed.   Not even a glimmer of happy that I could be moved to civilization or be with friends again.

Now I'm watching more TV, still clicking through Pinterest and wondering what else I can make.  Maybe tomorrow I'll actually do something work related.  I should be working on interview stuffs, but that's in my van, with my umbrella and rain coat, out in the far reaches of the parking lot.  Maybe Wednesday instead.

Sunday Funday Raceday

Today I attended my first NASCAR race and it was AWESOME!  It was loud but nothing some ear plugs didn't fix.  I had such a blast.  The track is call the paperclip because it's short and has super rounded corners.  No massive wrecks, but some fun spin outs to watch.  Oh and Harvick's engine blew up at the end and one guy kept losing all his gauges and battery power.  Good times!  I would have to say I really really liked it.  So much so that I would consider picking a team to follow.  Jimmie Johnson won today and that's who my friends cheered for.  I'll always have a soft spot for Dale Jr, but I also like Harvick and Kane.  I'll have to do my research.

It was an interesting drive down and back, we left and came back in the dark and in the rain.  The superstorm is colliding as I type and we could tell outside.  Temperatures are in the upper 30's and the wind is horribly gusty.  David has a Ford Super Duty and it was being blown around quite a bit.  I am super nervous about how this storm is shaping up, everything I read or watch is saying it's the worst case scenario.  Good thing I have food and water for a couple days.  Now I just need to make it through and figure out where my employer needs me most.  I'm starting to think I should cancel my interview for Thursday.  I cannot imagine I get to leave the East Coast soon.  Now I hope they still let me take my vacation in 2 weeks.

Yesterday was so uneventful.  Worked a claim, joked with the guys in the office, hypothesized over the storm track of Hurricane Sandy, painted my nails and watched a movie.  The end.

Today I overslept big time.  I wanted to be up early so I could go shop early.  Well I shut off my alarm and woke up at 10am.  Now I'm still in my jimjams watching crappy movies on TV.  It's cold and yucky outside and it will be for almost a week!  

I need to go to Target and get some supplies for this stupid storm.  Just some basics as I know I won't be able to get out much for food and such.  I doubt my hotel will lose electricity.  We are on the same power grid as 5 major hospitals.  I've noticed on today's track that the storm should be hitting a bit farther north which will result in WV getting hit a lot less.  Thank Goodness!  I'm still hoping that the meeting on Monday results in me driving home on Tues, but I'm not getting my hopes up too far.

Now it's time to shower and get motivated.  Heading down to the RV park for dinner with the guys tonight.  Bruce is making beef stroganoff!  I love having a home cooked meal and down time with the guys.  Although 8 hours in the truck, plus race time tomorrow might prove to be a bit much!  Good thing I have a magazine and a phone charger to bring with.  Maybe I should download a movie for the ipad too.

*I didn't get my dream job and I'm pretty upset about.  The feedback is total BS.  There is some niche/mold that I am not fitting into.  I know when the announcement comes out on who got the job I'll be even angrier.  

*I got an interview for the REACT job that would allow me to be home more.  

*I could be in WV until the end of Nov

*There's a new hurricane, her name is Sandy.  I hate her

*There's a big storm heading East.  It's called Frankenstorm (thanks for the stupid name NOAA).  Basically cold front meets hurricane=lots of rain and wind in a concentrated area.

*The BFF got the twins photos back and all I can say is I die!  Danyal kisses a pumpkin, I die!

*Danyal asked for Auntie today and just couldn't understand why I didn't come over today.  He's breakin my heart!

*There's some old car/older people convention and they are all in my hotel.  Note to self allow extra time when trying to leave

*I'm going to my first ever NASCAR race on Sunday.  Look out Martinsville, VA!

*My mom made my favorite tonight, dumplings!  Dad made homemade applesauce, pork roast and saurkraut.  It was amazing.  I have a huge food baby belly right now.

*I got new nail polishes today by A-England and ZOMG they are amazing!  I hope a new collection comes out soon.

*I tried out some new snacks/desserts today.  Melt a rolo on a ritz cracker, top with another .  let cool.  Ah-mah-zing!  Also a white chocolate pb combo with krispies, peanuts and marshmallows.  YUMMMM  Thank you Pinterest for some new inspiration.

*I got a new Restoration Hardware catalog today.  I want it all!  I'm for sure checking out a Christmas tree and some other small gifts for my sister.

*I went to Walmart today, I hate Walmart, even thought it's 1mile from my house.  I didn't even find anything that cute.  They did have some cute Christmas Packers decor but that's it.
